1) Synthesis and evaluation of a series of pyrimidine substituted 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives as antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory agents

Novel pyrimidine substituted 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives (11a-k) were synthesized from the condensation of different substituted aromatic carboxylic acids with substituted pyrimidine carboxy hydrazide using POCl3 as condensing agent. Their structures were characterized by physical and spectral studies. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for their in vitro antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity. Some of the newly synthesized compounds showed good antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities.

2) Mg(ClO 4) 2 catalyzed Eco-benign synthesis of 1,2,4-triazolinone derivatives as anti-tubercular agents

An eco-benign approach towards the synthesis of 1,2,4-triazolinones incorporated with isoindoline-1,3-dione (4a-j) and 9H-fluoren-9-imine (5a-j) was carried out using sydnones (1a-j) as synthon under magnesium perchlorate as catalyst . The newlysynthesized compounds were screened for anti-tubercular activities.

3) An improved and efficient synthesis of Irbesartan, an antihypertensive drug

Development of a new improved and efficient process suitable for the large-scale production of Irbesartan has been described. The key steps are tetrazole formation from secondary amide for the preparation of the key intermediate 1-Benzyl-5-(4'-bromomethyl-biphenyl-2-yl)-1H-tetrazole (9), N-alkylation and debenzylation.
